Alla Prima Oil Painting

Taking a Break by Kathy Gates. Painted during Expanded Alla Prima Calss with Rick. Intermediate to Advanced. Watch & do is the way this class begins. Alla Prima means that you paint your set up in one session so each week has a new set-up.  To add value to the class students are all working on the same subject as he Instructor.  You will learn by seeing the instructor paint along with you and he will critic your work to help guide your progress. Please note this is NOT a flower painting class.

Students paint their own paintings, but with the benefit of a series of benchmarks to successfully block in the necessary pattern of values and colors. Each students bring an item to paint weekly that matches a "theme for the week" as decided by the group.  One week it could be a coffee filter and the next a tea cup, depending on what the class wishes to learn.   The set up variety is half the fun! Eventually, advancing students will work on their own projects. Min 6 students.

Instructor - Richard graduated near the top of his class, from Kutztown University with a B.S. in Art Education and being offered a rare and immediate teaching position, he chose instead to spend time building a personal relationship with the One who brought him through it all. Rick directed his journey into biblical service. These years solidified his passions in this life and helped to set his priorities: A love for God, for family and for art. Richard then moved to Minneapolis to renew his art calling. He studied under the atelier system, an arduous method of instruction which can be traced back to the French Classical painters. Years of work were invested to develop an artist’s eye in order to render forms direct from nature.
