Andy
Evansen
Outdoor & Studio Painter in Watercolor

Andy Evansen
began painting watercolors in the mid-1990s.
Though largely
self-taught, he has studied with such well-known watercolorists as
Alvaro Castagnet, Eric Wiegardt, and Skip Lawrence. He served as
president of the Minnesota Watercolor Society from 2004-2006 and
teaches at workshops in the Twin Cities area. Evansen exhibits and
competes widely in regional and national galleries and juried
competitions, and was the winner of American Artist magazine’s international watercolor competition in 2006 and a
finalist in International Artist magazine’s landscape
competition in 2007.
Evansen
relishes the unique and unpredictable qualities of watercolor and
the medium’s ability to render a scene in a manner that is both
believable and spontaneous. By concentrating on the larger shapes
and overall design, and leaving something to the imagination,
Evansen forces the viewer to interpret details by drawing from their
own experiences and memories. “It is quite a trick to make it look
easy, and I take it as a compliment when viewers tell me how simple
my paintings look up close while appearing complex and detailed from
a distance.” |

Richard
Kochenash
Direct,
Figure, Floral & Landscape Painting in Oils

Lessons learned in art included a B
S in Art Education from Kutztown University and later 5 years at the
Atelier LeSueur. These schools afforded me a set of tools to
produce fine works of art however they only tell part of the picture.
Life constrains me to produce fruit
in a wider range than just art. I live now for a purpose greater
than this. As a son, father, husband and teacher I press on to the
best of my ability to act and live in light as much as to paint it.
My paintings,
primarily in oil paint and watercolor, span a wide range of interest.
Each reflects a point in time with its particular present moment story
to tell as well as my mood and emotion when I painted it. They
each stand independently. My hope is however that when viewed as a
whole all my works, including the art, present to the viewer the hand
behind my
signature.

 Mike
Rada
Outdoor &
Studio Landscape Instructor in Oil

Being a full-time artist was a
dream of mine all
the years I worked in a cubical. Since Fall of 2001, I have
been able to pursue that dream thanks to the support and
encouragement of my wife, kids, family and friends. Landscape
painting is my main focus as it challenges me to convey the emotions
they so powerfully offer, while creating positive images that invite
the viewer into the picture. Thankfully, I learned early in my
art career, talent is not enough and I've been fortunate to study
with nationally recognized artists.
It is my pleasure to personally
meet the people who enjoy my original paintings at public showings,
in my studio or while painting on location outdoors.

Jo
Storey
Director
Watercolor,
Oil Studio & Landscape Artist

Jo has always been an artist or
that is how it seems to her. Even while attending Western
Washington University where she received her business degree, Jo
kept her art alive by taking extra classes in studio art and working
on campus as Assistant Gallery Director. Her college friends
would not be surprised at her life direction.
After university in the Pacific
Northwest, Jo focused on
a career in business where she
found success, but missed her art. Finally while attending a
Executive Management Leadership course she was told that she "needed
a creative outlet to balance her life." So she took an art
class with Patricia Jerde in cast drawing at the Minnesota River
School of Fine Art. That was all it took to open the flood
gates. Jo and her husband Jeff, reorganized their lives, so
she could attend art school full time beginning in 2001. She
studied there for four years and also took a studio their. In
2006, Jo moved her studio to Savage with several other artists to
open Savage Art Studios & Gallery. She is currently co-owner
of SAS along with her partner Mary Aries. She teaches oil and
watercolor.

Darrell
Tangen
Photography Instructor

Darrell Tangen
has had a passion for photography since he was in
elementary school. Not only a passion to take
photographs, and not only to share them with others,
but to share the knowledge and skills it takes to
become a photographer. While in high school, he
began to seriously pursue the photography career as
yearbook and school newspaper photographer. After
finishing two years of technical education at
Staples Technical Institute in photography, he
realized that a lot of his passion came from helping
others to imagine, capture and print photographs.
And his teaching career began.
After having
the opportunity to provide corporate training in
Minneapolis, in Europe, Australia and across North
America, Darrell began teaching in the photography
program at Dakota County Technical College. He has
been a mixture of photofinishing and photography,
traditional and digital, for over 18 years now and
has recently taken his photography to a new level.
Trained and
passionate as a technician and scientist, he
struggled with the abstractness and illogic that can
create art. Photography can be a philosophical mix
of the two, sometimes opposing, worlds. Finding a
balance between the two has brought new passion and
ideas to the forefront and everything seems new
again.

Dan
Wiemer
Watercolor Workshop Instructor

Dan grew up in northern
Illinois with a love of nature. He studied art and design at Iowa
State University and received his Bachelor of Arts degree (graphic
design) in 1986. Following college, Dan worked at a
Minneapolis design firm. Three years later, in 1989, he began
his freelance career. He juggles a passion to create
commercial illustration as well as fine art. While his
paintings adorn living rooms across the country, his illustrations
are used by Paul Masson wines, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra,
Pillsbury, Chippewa spring water and Bakers Square Restaurants, to
name just a few.
Watercolor has been Dan’s media of choice for the last twenty years.
“I truly love the spontaneity of watercolor,” he said.
“Watercolor, in particular, is ideally suited to intuitive painting.”
The fluid medium lends itself to a unique decision-making process as the
painting develops. Sometimes even the artist is surprised by the
final piece. “I read in a golf magazine that you should plan like
a surgeon and swing like a hippie,” Wiemer said. “This is the way
I find myself doing some of my best paintings.” Dan says he enjoys the
process of painting and creating more than the finished product.
“The experience I have when I’m painting, the interaction between
myself, the paint and the paper—that, to me, is the ultimate art form."

Amy
Zellmer
Social
Networking & Photography Instructor
I have been photographing
weddings since 1997 and believe there is no better job in the world.
I love working with a bride and groom on their special day, and
capturing the memories that they will cherish for a lifetime. With
12 years of wedding experience under my belt, I believe I am the
right choice for your wedding day! Don't trust your wedding photos
to just anyone who calls themselves a "photographer"!
In 2008 I was named 2nd place Wedding Photographer of the Year by
the Twin Cities Professional Photographers Association. I have also
won numerous awards for my wedding photos and album designs.
Together we will sit down and discuss your wedding day and decide
what style of wedding coverage and album best suits your style. We
have a variety of album styles for you to choose from to fit your
taste and budget.
My style is best described as a good combination of traditional
photography (with a modern twist) and photojournalistic
(story-telling). An engagement session is "mandatory" so that we can
work together before your wedding day, allowing us to get to know
each other and also for us to better understand what style of
photography best suits you!
