Classes for Elementary through High School

The Art Program is sponsored by the City of Savage as part of its Park and Recreation programs. Savage Art Studios & Gallery provides The Art Program classes as part of  our fine art program for our communities' budding artists. Kids do not have to be residents of Savage to participate as enrollment is open to all within the age range.  SASG youth classes cover a range of mediums, including graphite, paint, colored pencil, charcoal, etc. helping students develop skills from beginner to advanced.  Classes might use the easel indoors or a sketch pad outdoors depending on the projects goals.  

Classes are progressive by individual student, so the course of study builds upon itself, so students may begin at anytime.  Consistency is the best course of study for committed art students.  We find kid's that stay the course progress more quickly then those that start and stop and start again.  Just as in sports, repetition is the key to successful art studies. One does not learn to play football or baseball or any musical instrument by skipping practice.  Art classes train the student to see, interpret and create beautiful works of art that can be displayed for all to enjoy.

Our courses build on the basics, lessons that artists such as Rembrandt and Picasso, took time to learn. We then give a lot of room for self expression, to choose colors and emotion that best represents who the artist is.  We are not about sending home "just a pretty picture that is just like the next students" but rather beginning your child on a path to true Fine Art appreciation, skills and creative thinking.  Although, I must admit, we do send home some pretty pictures too!

And, of course, at the core of our program is an element of fun and adventure for something new.  We hope your budding artists will join us this school year and see where their pathway to the arts takes them.

Drawing & Painting

Grades 4th to 8th

Students will learn through observation and practice in building skills in drawing and painting.  All skill levels welcomed.  The class will use group exercises and individual projects that focus on building skills and power of observation.  Basic drawing and painting materials will be provided.  Students will be grouped by age and skill levels during class.

Capturing People, Places & Things in Your Art

(students may be divided into groups by age)

Saturday Afternoons

1 to 3PM

Kids of all skill levels will work on projects that help them build their confidence and skills in drawing and painting the world around them.  This class is progressive so lessons will change and focus on a wide variety of topics, mediums and styles through out the year.  Studio and outdoor locations may be used.  Kid’s will work on class projects as well as their own ideas.  Offered all Sessions.  Materials included.
