PRESS RELEASE
DATE: January 20, 2008 FROM: Savage Art Studios & Gallery TITLE: New Co-Directors for Savage Art Studios & Gallery
SAVAGE, MN – A new artistic direction was officially launched at Savage Art Studios & Gallery with the announcement of a streamlined owners group consisting of two of the original founders, Jo Storey and Mary Aries, who will act as Co-Directors. SAS’s founders consisted of 7 local area artists, from South of the River communities, who functioned as an owner/management group. “The Founding Artists are credited with launching SAS.” said Storey, “Without their vision, direction, and dedication Savage might not have a traditional gallery, art school or working artist’s studios downtown today. They invested so much of themselves to bring this to us and we are grateful to them for all that they accomplished.” From the beginning it was agreed that each artist would be able to evaluate their ownership position every 12 months, so it is not surprising that after getting things started, most of the artists wanted to return to simply painting again. That is not to say the artists will end their association with SAS, as most will continue to either studio, teach or show there on an on-going basis. The new streamlined ownership will allow management to react to market conditions more efficiently. Since September, 2007 Aries and Storey have been acting as Co-Directors, and have found that their experience complements one another. “We like to do different things,” says Aries, “so it works for us. We share the important things like our love for painting, art and our vision for this place. The rest is just a to-do list to make it happen.” Since the end of December, there are several fun changes happening at the studios. New investment in a still life class area will make it easier for students and instructors to set up to work on projects. A new permanent retail studio for ready made frames and local artist’s prints has been added. New local artists’ works are being added, such as jewelry, glass art, pottery, cards and other local art items. The main gallery is being update and new gallery shows scheduled for 2008 include “Minnesotans’ Winter Dreams - An Anti-winter Show” is scheduled for February & March; SAS’s Student Show in April; Minnesota Professional Photographers Association Show in May; and the 2nd Annual Savage Art Council’s Juried Art Show in June & July. There is still show time available to art groups or professional artists to schedule their own shows in August, September, and October, 2008 and during 2009. “Most importantly”, says Storey, “SAS’s focus will remain true to our founders’ vision of providing local artists with a fun, re-energized place for them to learn, teach, create, sell, share and belong.” - (END) – Contact: Jo Storey Studio Phone: 952.895.0375 SAS Address: 4735 W 123rd Street STE 200 – Savage, MN 55378 Email: jo@savageartstudios.com Web Site: SavageArtStudios.com |
