All Art Program Classes, Camps & Workshops are designed for all ages of kids to teens. 

 

Look for the age definition.

Home School Teens Oil Painting with  Jo Storey

Teens will be introduced to the time tested method of the classic realist Masters.  Beginners will first draw their still life set up, transfer it to canvas, and then they will do a black and white value study in oil paint . More intermediate and advanced students will work on their own projects from life. Teen must be 9th-12th grade or equivalent home school level with strong drawing skills. The class is fun and lively environment where teens are able to share their skills with others. Minimum 4 students. Teens 14 to 18 Only—No Adults—*Materials are available for $15 fee/5 wks

DRAWING FUN with Holly Landauer

Do you enjoy doodling?  Come learn drawing skills which will turn those doodles into finished drawings.  We will use pencil, charcoal, ink, and colored pencils. Teacher will have supplies for the first class.  Ages: 8 -18; Minimum 6 students

Boy Scout Art Merit Badge with Patty Schwartz

Scouts will complete all requirements for their Art Merit Badge in one afternoon.  Please bring the merit badge card signed by your leader and dress for a messy class.  Instructor is a registered counselor with the Northern Star Council.  All supplies are provided.  Special arrangements can be made for your scout group to have their own class with 8 to 12 scouts, ask for info.  Materials: Included; 5 to 12 Scouts

Kid’s Camps

DRAWING CAMPS—Loren Chantland

Encourage your child’s gift by enrolling them in this class.  Your child will learn the basics skills of representational drawing, including the principles of light and shadow; line and shape. They will be introduced to various drawing techniques and materials such as conte crayon, vine charcoal and pencil. This class offers lots of fun with an artist who has illustrated several children’s books Classes can be progressive weekly. Materials: 2B, 6B, 4H pencils, vinyl eraser and drawing paper. Ages: 8 – 15. Minimum 6.

Two separate 5 Day Camps with five, 2 hr classes/week; Days: Monday – Friday

PAINTING CAMPS—Kids & Teens with Loren Chantland

Does your child love to paint? Enroll your child in this class where they can safely experiment with watercolors and be introduced to other painting mediums, such as oil and acrylic. Your child will learn good habits foundational for artist’s safety and success. Classes may be progressive from week to week. There will also be an emphasis on enjoying your work. Minimum: 6 students weekly. Materials: 4H, 2B pencils, vinyl eraser, Prang 8 color watercolor set and watercolor paper (or your preferred painting medium).  Ages: 8 – 15. Minimum 6/week.

Two separate 5 day camps with five 2 hour classes each week.

Days: Monday – Friday

Time: 1 – 3PM

READY, SET, DRAWING CAMPS !   Fundamental Drawing Skills with  Mary Klein, Jennifer Soriano & Loren Chantland   Learn traditional and timeless drawing methods in a fun, positive atmosphere. This class will provide an excellent environment for the serious young artist. Previous drawing experience is not a requirement, just a desire to learn!  Student will receive both individual and group projects to strengthen their drawing skills. There will also be "Art walks" to reinforce students' ability to draw from direct observation.  Additional challenging projects will be available for the more experienced drawing student.  If you are serious about learning to draw well, this is the class for you! Weekly classes are designed to be progressive for returning students or stand alone for new students. Age: 8 – 18. Materials: 2B, 6B, 4H pencils, vinyl eraser and drawing paper.  Minimum: 6 students weekly.

Four separate 5 day camps with five 2 hour classes each week.

COLOR WIZARD CAMPS:   Color Theory—Bring Artwork Alive—Mary Klein, Jennifer Soriano & Loren Chantland   Imagine having the power to mix ordinary materials like paint and pastel into a wide array of colors! In this class students will learn both the theory and practice of mixing color through a variety of color mixing games and projects. More advanced projects in color theory are tailored to fit the individual artist. Students will work from both master paintings and direct observation.  Previous drawing experience is recommended but not required.  This is a great series of classes to prepare any student for color mixing in a more advanced color media such as watercolor, oil or acrylic. Come make the magic of color mixing within your power. Weekly classes are designed to be progressive for returning students or stand alone for new students.  Minimum: 6 students weekly. Materials: 4H, 2B pencils, vinyl eraser, Prang 8 color watercolor set and watercolor paper. Ages: 8 - 18; Minimum 6/wk.

How to Register for the Art Program?

Savage Art Studios' fine art classes camps and workshops are sponsored by The City of Savage's Parks and Recreations Department named "the Art Program".  The classes listed on this page are part of this program but have the same great instructors as all the rest of our classes.  Only the program name is different & how parents register!

 

Because these are part of the City's Programs Parents should register as follows

1. Savage Residents received the City's Summer Sensation Book in the mail.  In the mailing you will find a registration form and all the details on how to register!
